The Limay River or "Limay Medium" is located near the town with an average flow of 500 cubic meters per second and an average distance of 80 Km in this area, since it has its source at the Nahuel Huapi river and reaches Neuquén capital city, running along 500 Km.
It is the most suitable river for fishing brown trout and rainbow trout; you may also find perch, silversmelt and common jollytail.
"Because of the great distance this river covers, it is a fertile river". It has a great population of fish, specially, brown trout and big-sized rainbow trout. This is due to its fertile waters, which are a consequence of the big amount of kilometers this river runs.
Throughout the course of the river, along different areas and regions, its waters are fed by substances under dissolution, detached from material making up its bed. All these elements make the river rich in seaweeds and aquatic plants, first link in the feeding cycle for aquatic life. Rich in stonefly nymph, mayfly nymph, crustacean and young fish.
We should take into account that the Limay Medium river has a 1-meter slope every 10,000 meters approximately along its course. This is made by a river with very good current thus, providing excellent oxygenation. This is very important data since trout need good oxygenation, between 6 and 12 parts of oxygen per each million parts of water.
This factor -among many others- makes this river the river of the best brown trout residing in the Patagonia.
